Blog post Website Selection

I've never created a website before because this is basically my first technology course. I looked at weebly and wix and they both have nice layouts and tools. I chose weebly to create my website because it has more unique layouts and designs. I'm making my website about BVHS chamber singers because it's a group I'm in and enjoy. We do a lot of cool things during the year so it's nice to preview it on a website.

Blog Post- Online forms/surveys

I've never used google forms to create a survey so it's very new to me. I've had friends whos said google forms is very easy and efficient to use so if I ever have to make a survey I will use it. I've never had to use any other survey generating software before because I've never been in a class that requires it. I've heard many people use survey monkey and it's very efficient and easy. Most people use survey monkey or google forms because they are the most basic.

4/7

I feel like I'm a good dancer because I've been doing it since I was five. I'm not going to teach the class how to dance, but I could show them some stretching techniques they could do before and after working out that I've learned that will help your muscles. I know many people don't properly stretch correctly and that can lead to muscle soreness, tightness, and serious loss in flexibility. I can show the wall stretch, downward facing dog, quad stretch, and hip stretch to give people ideas on how to warm themselves up. I think this will be a good presentation especially because a lot of people play sports.

4/5- Apps

On my personal phone, I have a lot of basic apps like Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter that I enjoy using every day. I also have a few apps that I use that are related to school like Studentvue and google docs that make my life ten times easier and enhance the learning experience. Life with out apps would obviously be different and things would be less accessible and convenient, but many generations have survived without them. It would mainly affect my social life but I would still be able to live a normal life and honestly would probably communicate more with people in person if apps were not invented. I think some people are too obsessed with their phones and technology and it would really be good if people took a step back and stopped using apps every once and a while.

4/3/2017- My Weekend

I went to my last school dance and had a lot of fun at Prom. Our group had 22 people so it took a while to take pictures and get everything organized. We then  ate at The Grille in Park Place which was good and then went to the dance for a little bit. I had fun hanging out with my friends all night and just having a good time and I'm glad no drama went down. I slept most the day on Sunday because I didn't sleep the night before, so all in all it was a really good weekend.

comparing and contrasting photo editing

Picmonkey Collage maker Pixlr
meant for one picture not collages mainly used for collages much smaller font/ unique layout
many filters and backgrounds has outlines for collages can draw on picture
has face editing features like red eye/blemish fix can add text  all tools on side, very confusing
many stickers can add stickers, but fewer than Picmonkey fewer filters
textures like space, clouds, paint harder to add and move pictures only lets you use black and white colors for free
many themes and templates must pay for better features limited tools
easiest to use   doesn't have much instruction on how to use tools
must pay for better features

3/22- Spring Break

This picture was taken in Gulf Shores, Alabama while my brother and I were parasailing. The weather was beautiful and we made a lot of memories while on the trip.

I also traveled to New York City with my choir friends. We explored the whole city and this was my favorite picture taken in Times Square, the busiest area of the state.

Name of Article- “9 Odd Ways Your Tech Devices May Injure You” by Bahar Gholipour

Introduction- Although there are many benefits to computers, cell phones, and modern technology, a number of cases of injuries are growing rapidly in the United States. Some injuries come suddenly, but many come from doing repeated tasks that take time to develop.
-The first is lightning strikes, which is a very rare occurrence but becomes more possible when holding on to a metal device.
-Next, a new skin disorder was discovered and was caused by holding the PlayStation console for too tightly for long periods. It is called palmar hidradenitis, and is caused by continuous trauma to the palms due to repetitive griping and tightening of the hands on the controller.
-It has also been proven that people may experience seizures or blackouts when watching certain patterns or lights on TV’s and videogames.
- Next, another disorder called repetitive strain injury is caused by sweeping a phone’s screen for too long, which can gradually injure one’s muscles, tendons, and nerves. This disorder can cause people to develop masses under their skin that need to be surgically removed.
-People also who use a computer for more than two hours a day can develop computer vision syndrome, which causes many eye and vision problems. 70% of people who work on computers for a majority of the day and sit too close to the screen may develop this syndrome.
- Another way people are injuring themselves is from the use of chargers, especially off brand and third party ones. Some manufacturers do not implement all safety measures when making their product in order to bring the cost down, so it can actually lead to electrocution.
-Tinnitus is also another common disorder many are getting who use their cellphones too often. This disorder causes ringing in the ear and makes a person hear random sounds that interfere with their daily life.
-Finally, the number of accidents caused by a person using headphones is growing. There have been 116 accidents in which a person had died or had been injured because of headphone use or phone distraction.
Although many of these cases may seem unrealistic and highly unlikeable, there are proven facts to show that the overuse of technology has many disadvantages and can cause some serious damage to a person’s life.

How it relates to emerging technology-

It relates to emerging technology because it lists some of the cons and dangers of technology that people use daily. Over use of anything can be dangerous and this article really suggests that it is a problem in our society and people are actually getting disorders because of the overuse.

Interesting Fact-

A 15-year-old girl was hit by lightning while using her phone in a large park in London. She went into cardiac arrest and lost her hearing on the side she was holding the phone due to damage to her eardrum.

3/06/17- Infographic Peer Feedback

Infographics I viewed-

Braden Davis- He had fun facts about social media usage. It was interesting that he had a graph that showed the amount of users for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other apps.

Trevor Lister- His infographic was about trending transportation on wheels and the top 5 most sold cars this year. 3 out of the 5 were trucks so it easily showed that many people prefer trucks.
Alex O- His infographic showed the fastest species in land, water, and air. It then also said the types of food each animal ate. I think it's cool but it could use bigger font because sometimes it's hard to read.
Ana K- Her infographic showed the main differences between tea and coffee and it had a really nice display. It had a lot of cool charts that compared the two different drinks that was interesting.
Cameron Janofsky- It showed the growth of youth hockey players in the USA and the graph showed that each year, many more people are starting to play hockey. It also showed that Canada and the USA have a significantly higher percentage of hockey players than other countries.

Finally, I enjoyed this project because it was fun to be creative and look up information about interesting topics of my choice. I liked being able to display what I learned in a fun and new way rather than just typing about it.

3/3/17- Infographic Reflection

https://magic.piktochart.com/output/20643653-new-piktochart- My infographic!

I learned that infographics are a way to display complex information in a more pleasing and easier way by using pictures and symbols. I enjoyed creating my own, but found it kind of difficult to think of a topic and what to write about it. In school, I would definitely use an infographic if I was trying to show statistics of an historic event or report new information over something that is spreading on social media. I used piktochart to create my infographic and I found the site very easy to navigate and would definitely use it again. It had plenty of tools to create a very organized and unique infographic like hundreds of pictures, colors, icons and tools.

2/28- Canva vs. Lucid Press

I think Canva was definitely a lot easier tool to use than Lucid Press because the lay out and set up of the website made more sense to me. But Lucid Press offers a lot more tools and specific layouts to make a more professional card or poster. Canva is good when wanting to make a simple thank you card and is easy to use, but a lot of the cool parts cost money and it doesn't have as many layout options. Lucid Press is a little bit more complicated to use and glitches at times because of how slow it can be, but it offers many free layouts and pictures and definitely makes it easier to make a professional poster. Overall, I liked Lucid Press the most because it had many options and it definitely made professional cards and posters, rather than Canva that is made for more personal and simple cards.

2/28- Infographic

An infographic is a form of content marketing that can turn a boring subject into a much more exciting concept by displaying the information in a graph or chart. It allows the audience member to learn about a topic while doing a lot less reading and most people would prefer reading an infographic than a regular text article. An infographic is best used for explaining a story or thesis, to educate and inform, or to build brand awareness. They are commonly found on social media, in newspapers to show weather or used to display maps for public transportation. They have also been commonly used because this is the age of short attention span, meaning people have less patience to read something full of words so they would prefer to see a more simple version. In the classroom, I could info graphs if I'm presenting something dealing with a complex idea like a procedure of some sort or a study with lots of statistics. Info graphs would help me organize information so the audience can view it easier and I can add pictures and graphs so it will grab the readers attention and put my point across easily. I could also use an info graph when presenting information about myself or another person because it's a unique idea that is pleasing to the eye.

I like this infograph because it's organized very well and has a cool appearance that captivates an audience member.

I chose this info graph because it displays very unique information in a way that's easy to follow and read. It shows how info graphs can show factual information and awareness about unknown topics.

2/27 My Dream Business

I would like to start a wedding planning business and call it Simply Sweet Wedding & Events. I would locate my business somewhere in a city or join with another event planning department or company to get my name out. I would hire organized, professionals who are experienced in planning all parts of weddings from the food and catering to the band and party experience. I've always thought planning was fun and it's definitely a cool experience to help make a couples marriage a special and meaningful event.

1/31/17- Ted Talk Reflection

I agree with the Ted Talk because phones have definitely become a huge priority in this society and the amount of face to face communication has seriously decreased. Phones are causing people to lack personal skills because people focus more on their digital life and how they are perceived to others rather than themselves as a person. Children are also getting phones at such young ages and are staying indoors staring at a screen rather than playing outside and doing activities children should be doing. Society is rapidly changing and I think if we continue to allow the younger generation to be seriously attached to their technology and social media, communication and human traits will severely be lacking in many.

2/6/17- Pictures

This is a picture I took of my baby cousin Nora. She is one years old and is super cute and funny.
This is a picture of my brother and I in a famous church in Ireland. It was a beautiful place and I definitely want to visit again.

This is a recent picture of my friends and I before a school dance. They are really close to me and always know how to have a good time.

2/01/16- Words for Teenagers

This post is harsh and to the point but it does a good job of explaining how teenagers need to take responsibility and learn to grow up because you will not always get everything handed to you in life. I completely agree with this because in this generation of teenagers, too many people are complaining about how hard their lives are and how it's difficult to get good at something but that's just reality. They need to accept the fact that nothing great comes easily, but there can still be beauty in the process and growth. This post motivates me to step up and work harder for my goals and dreams because I am the only one who can take total control of my life and make my self a success.

1/30/17 Social Bookmarking CE

After reading an article called "I'm calling it: Social networking is over," I've learned that there is a big difference between social bookmarking and social media. The difference is social bookmarking is for  personal content and social media is for professional content and social media is now overpowering bookmarking because people want to share more videos and articles rather than personal information. Social bookmarking is helpful, but social media is becoming much more used by the millennial generation because of messing apps like snap chat and other social networking devices like YouTube and twitter. I learned a little more about LinkedIn and I think that would be a helpful social bookmarking device to use in the future for business and job opportunities.

1/27- Alphabetical Advice

Always understand that nothing bad lasts forever.
Change yourself to be the best you can be.
Create art; do what you love.
Enter each challenge with optimism.
Put your all in everything you do.
Try to see the good in others.
Accept failure and learn from it.
Never base someone solely off looks.
Congratulate others and their accomplishments.
Enjoy life and those around you.

1/25- Introduction to Social Bookmarking

Social Bookmarking is an online service that allows users to add and share bookmarks of websites and web documents. The purpose is to organize your favorite websites and pages onto one page so you can access them and it also allows you to browse through the most popular websites on social bookmarking websites. I personally use the social bookmarking website called Pinterest because it's easy to type an interest into the search engine and find the best results without having to scroll through a bunch of useless material. You can also create boards and join other's boards to create pins which is very useful and popular new trend. I would recommend Symbaloo if you're new to social bookmarking because it's simple to use and allows you to easily navigate the web and save favorite websites that you can access everywhere. Instapaper is also a popular bookmarker and allows you to simply press a button called "read later" to save an article and then  you can access that same article whenever on your computer, iPhone, kindle, or iPad.

1/18/17- Prezi Reflection

Now that I've used Prezi as a presentation method, I think it was a little more difficult to use than PowerPoint. PowerPoint is a lot more straight forward and basic, but I've also been using it since middle school so that is mainly why I thought it was more easier to navigate and create. Depending on the presentation, I would say Prezi is better used for informal speeches like "About You" presentations or school related things, but PowerPoint is better used for business or formal presentations. Prezi has a more creative and playful way of presenting things, but I think PowerPoint is much more straightforward and basic but sometimes that is better when preparing a long speech so the audience doesn't get distracted by the screen. Next time I do a presentation I will probably revert back to PowerPoint because I like how you can add transitions to slides and make sentences pop up on each slide. Prezi is a great tool and can show a lot of your personality through the slides but I don't think it's appropriate for a business or serious event.
